Truty joins DLA Piper in Chicago

Addition Strengthens Environmental and Real Estate Environmental Groups in Chicago

(Chicago) - DLA Piper today announced that Jay Truty has joined the firm's Environmental practice group as a partner in its Chicago office. He joins the firm from Bell, Boyd & Lloyd LLP, where he was a partner in the firm's Environmental, Energy and Natural Resources practice group.

Truty has experience practicing all aspects of environmental law with a concentration in environmental transactional matters, including complex brownfield redevelopment projects, and corporate environmental counseling.

"Jay is an extraordinary attorney who has represented a variety of clients in complex real estate transactions and developments involving environmentally-impaired properties," said Louis S. Cohen, managing partner of DLA Piper's Chicago office. "He will be integral in expanding our Environmental and Real Estate Environmental groups in Chicago, particularly the brownfield redevelopment and sustainability components. Truty represents clients on a broad range of legal issues relating to air, water, waste management and land contamination, including permitting, defense of government enforcement actions and third-party cost recovery actions, brownfield redevelopment, environmental risk management, corporate sustainability and occupational, health and safety compliance."

Previously, Truty served as an in-house environmental attorney at Caterpillar Inc. (CAT), where he represented CAT and its subsidiaries on an international basis on all aspects of environmental and, occupational health and safety legal matters, including corporate and real estate transactions involving environmentally impaired real estate acquired, divested or redeveloped by CAT and its corporate real estate division.

"Jay's addition will provide the firm with broader expertise in the expanding area of rural brownfields and natural resource damage remediation and restoration cleanups, as well as the associated conservation-driven redevelopment projects," said Deborah Jennings, chair of DLA Piper's Environmental practice group. "Additionally, Jay's in-house experience will be a valuable asset to our practice. We welcome him to the team."

Truty is actively involved with the National Brownfield Association. He currently serves on its Illinois executive committee and is also the membership chair of the NBA Illinois chapter.

He received a J.D. from the University of Missouri School of Law and a B.A. from Illinois Wesleyan University.
